Rolex King Midas Ref. 9630 First Series – 18k Yellow Gold (1960s)

Extraordinary and highly collectible Rolex King Midas Ref. 9630, the very first series of this iconic and avant-garde model—limited to just 1,000 pieces and representing one of Rolex’s boldest designs.

This early example is from the coveted first series, identifiable by the absence of side engraving, and numbered 058, making it a particularly desirable low-number piece.

Crafted entirely in solid 18k yellow gold, the unpolished case has developed a remarkable natural rosé oxidation patina over time, giving it a unique warm tone rarely seen on standard examples. The sharp, architectural form remains strong and untouched.

The asymmetrical case and integrated bracelet create a sculptural, almost architectural presence on the wrist, inspired by classical Greek design. The bracelet is notably long at approximately 19 cm, a rare feature for this reference.

Fitted with a 14k yellow gold Cellini dial (likely replaced), showing light marks consistent with age, and protected by a sapphire crystal—one of the first used by Rolex.

Powered by the manual-wind Rolex Calibre 650, fully serviced and running excellently.

Key highlights:
